What Makes a Successful Internet Entrepreneur?

When I think of a successful internet Entrepreneur, I think of my friend Colin McDougall. I remember first hearning him speak about a year and a half ago at an Internet Conference. He was not planning to speak but was coaxed into talking about how he was making over 5 figures a month on his website crediteria.com. Even though he stuttered and stammered a bit on his first public appearence, I listened like a hawk because I knew this 'guy' was for real and not trying to sell me something like a lot of the other speakers.

While he has moved on, grown and learned a lot since then, one thing has not changed. He is dedicated to creating a 'real' business on the internet. No smoke and mirrors. Colin is one of the most down to earth people I know and he has recently started a small club to help people learn how to make and create a real business on the internet. 

This is so refreshing, and Colin is committed to 'white hat' techniques and building actual businesses on the internet. If you are like me you are tired of hearning from so called guru's. People who promise the world, but you end up losing money. Colin started out with a "real life" site that has made him more than a living. He does not claim, and never will claim to be an "internet guru". I have known him for over a year now and he is one of the most down to earth guys I know. His mission now is to help people like you and me make it on the internet with practical advise.

So, in my opinion, what makes  for a successful internet entrepreneur? One is that they need to be modest and not trying to impress people without real life, 'current' examples. Afterall, how many of us have been sucked into programs that worked great 6 months or a year ago, but because the internet has changed so quickly those marketing ideas no longer work. Two is that they need to be working their business everyday. The internet changes so fast and it is important to keep up with the latest trends. A successful internet entrepreneur looks at the long term and is not out to make a quick buck. It is important to 'play' by the rules of the game, and use purely 'white hat' techniques. People that are successful are dedicated to provide websites and information of 'real' value and in the end those websites will be rewarded by google, and those that don't will be penalized.

I try to hang around people with the same philosophy as mine and work my internet business with honesty and integrity. I am interested in long term relationships and building long term businesses.

I am glad to call Colin a friend and plan to surround myself with people just like him. I salute him for his success and wish him continued luck on his endeavors. It is his spirit and perservenance I am trying to emulate.
